Destruction of chemical warfare agents using metal-organic frameworks.

چکیده
Chemical warfare agents containing phosphonate ester bonds are among the most toxic chemicals known to mankind. Recent global military events, such as the conflict and disarmament in Syria, have brought into focus the need to find effective strategies for the rapid destruction of these banned chemicals. Solutions are needed for immediate personal protection (for example, the filtration and catalytic destruction of airborne versions of agents), bulk destruction of chemical weapon stockpiles, protection (via coating) of clothing, equipment and buildings, and containment of agent spills. Solid heterogeneous materials such as modified activated carbon or metal oxides exhibit many desirable characteristics for the destruction of chemical warfare agents. However, low sorptive capacities, low effective active site loadings, deactivation of the active site, slow degradation kinetics, and/or a lack of tailorability offer significant room for improvement in these materials. Here, we report a carefully chosen metal-organic framework (MOF) material featuring high porosity and exceptional chemical stability that is extraordinarily effective for the degradation of nerve agents and their simulants. Experimental and computational evidence points to Lewis-acidic Zr(IV) ions as the active sites and to their superb accessibility as a defining element of their efficacy.

Multi-component synthesis of spiro[indoline-3,4'-pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrazoles] using Zn(BDC) metal-organic frameworks as a green and efficient catalyst
In this research, a series of spiro compounds was efficiently synthesized via one-pot multi component reactions of isatins, aryl amines, dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and hydrazine in the presence of Zn(BDC) MOF as catalyst. The key superiority of this process is high yields, easy work-up, short reaction times, and purification of the products by the non-chromatographic system. The study of t...

As a novel performance, methanol gas conversion to dimethoxymethane (DMM) in one-step based on Fe-Mo-O (iron molybdate mixed oxides) catalysts with high surface area fabricated by metal organic frameworks (MOFs) precursors was improved. For this approach, at first, Fe(III) precursors (iron (III) 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate (MIL-100 (Fe) and iron terephthalate (MOF-...
متن کاملEfficient removal of cobalt(II) ion from aqueous solution using amide-functionalized metal-organic framework
In this study, an amide-functionalized metal-organic framework, namely TMU-24 was selected to adsorb Co(II) from wastewater with an adsorption capacity of 500 mg. g-1 in less than 20 minutes in neutral pH (pH=7). The effect of diverse parameters such as adsorbent dosage, competitive ions, and contact time on the adsorption process was investigated to find the optimal amounts of them. Also, the ...
